Duncan Bannatyne: ‘I never thought any party would have courage’ to abolish non doms
Duncan Bannatyne, who last week signed up to a letter backing Conservative economic policies, published in The Daily Telegraph, has publicly backed Labour’s non dom policy.
He says that he did not believe that any party would have “the courage” to abolish the status and the change would “gets my vote”.
he released this statement this morning: “Mr Bannatyne’s view is that non-doms living in the UK and paying no tax cost the treasury a lot of money and the policy should be scrapped. He stands by his signature on the letter endorsing corporation tax cuts and George Osborne’s stewardship. He is on holiday and not giving interviews.”
In 2010, during the last crackdown on non doms in the UK, Mr Bannatyne claimed that non doms have an “unfair advantage” in business over those required to pay tax in the UK.
At the time he argued that businessmen and women could use tax free income “to fund the non-dom lifestyle abroad – the yachts, planes and mansions”.
