New Ukip policy: Referendum on most popular petition with over 2 million signatures

A national referendum will be held every 2yrs on most popular petition gathering over 2m signatures and outcome will be in Queen's Speech

Some commentators have said this could lead to referendums on issues that have not seemed quite important enough to spark a national vote before.

For example the petition to get Jeremy Clarkson reinstated on Top Gear topped 1 million.
