Alcohol campaigners respond to Nick Clegg’s alcoholic Labour comments

The Lib Dem leader has been criticised for comments comparing Labour’s record on borrowing to an alcoholic craving vodka.

Lib Dem council candidate Mathew Hulbert, who is standing in the Barwell ward on Hinkley and Bosworth Borough Council, hit out at the comments on Twitter.

He said: “Has Nick Clegg really described Labour’s pledges as ‘like an alcoholic vowing not to drink’?! A disgraceful analogy if so!

“I hope Norman Lamb will berate Nick Clegg for using the analogy it’s ‘like an alcoholic vowing not to drink.’ Emily Robinson, who founded Alcohol Concern’s successful Dry January campaign, said: “Given his claim to take mental health issues seriously I find Nick Clegg remarks regarding alcoholics inappropriate.”
