Nick Clegg to warn against ‘Blukip’ right-wing alliance
Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg will today stake a further claim to the “kingmaker” role after 7 May by warning against a right-wing “Blukip” alliance of Ukip, the DUP and Tory backbenchers, if the Conservatives attempt to run a minority government.
Mr Clegg will say British values of “decency, tolerance and generosity” would be “cast aside” if a Blukip grouping gained power after 7 May.
He will publish a list of 20 key seats which he thinks will decide whether the Lib Dems or “Blukip” hold sway, if Mr Cameron leads the largest party after the election.
“Imagine what Britain could become if the prime minister had to bargain with Nigel Farage and his friends for votes,” he will say in the north west later.
“Our public services cut to the bone. Our communities divided. Our shared British values of decency, tolerance and generosity cast aside.”
