Could Douglas Alexander be scalped by the youngest MP since 1667?
In the quiet rustling of ballot papers, there is now a real sense of tension here in Paisley South. If the SNP win here, their candidate Mhairi Black will make history as the youngest MP since 1667 – she is just 20 years old.
The current sitting MP is none other than Labour’s Campaign Manager and Shadow Foreign Secretary Douglas Alexander – the MP for Paisley since 1997. A Labour loss here would be devastating to the party.
There’s a turnout of 75.5 per cent, that’s up ten per cent from the last general election, a sign the Scottish electorate is hugely engaged post referendum. Watching the ballots pile up in the Alexander and Black piles…it’s so close even I’m starting to feel nervous…!
