Douglas Alexander loses his seat to 20-year-old SNP candidate
Douglas Alexander gets 17,864 votes to the SNPs 23,548. 20 year old Mhairi Black beats Mr Alexander by 6,000 votes making her the youngest MP since 1667.
Ms Black says that she hopes that Mr Alexander will be back in politics when he “recovers” from the result.
This is a big, if expected, blow to Labour. Alexander was a key campaign coordinator and labour shadow foreign secretary
75 per cent turnout and a massive swing to the SNP.
The SNP have gained 5 seats from Labour so far.
