Nigel Farage always said that he would quit as leader if he failed to win his seat in last week’s general election.

Just four days later his resignation has been rejected and he is back as leader of the party.

Presumably Suzanne Evans will step aside.

UKIP's National Executive has rejected my resignation as leader. Please see my Facebook page for the full statement: http://t.co/VTsOFgS3Tw

Commentators are pointing out that this quick turnaround risks making Ukip look like both a laughing stock and a one man band.

I am writing a book about Suzanne Evans period as UKIP leader, provisionally entitled "Four Days in May". I am looking for a publisher.

Farage book: “Was I supposed to brief Ukip policy from the Westminster Arms? No – if I fail to win South Thanet, it is curtains for me."
