Lutfur Rahman found guilty of illegal practices in Tower Hamlets election
Michael Crick is there in a court so packed he was forced to sit on the floor:
I’m taking a brief break from the general election today to go along to the high court where we have just heard the judgement in election court over the Tower Hamlets case.
Four petitioners have argued that Latfur Rahman and his supporters secured his re-election as Mayor of Tower Hamlets unfairly and illegally.
They hoped the judge Richard Mawrey would overturn the result, order a new contest and disqualify Rahman from running.
Mawrey is a robust judge. He presided over the famous Birmingham postal votes fraud case a decade ago in which he compared the city to a banana republic.
