Labour would fire unqualified teachers by 2020 if they aren’t enrolled in training
Tristram Hunt has said that all unqualified teachers (Britain currently has 17,000 of them) would be fired if they have not begun training for official qualifications.
He said that those who were not in training or did not have a qualification by the end of the next parliament did not belong in classrooms.
Mr Hunt, Labour’s shadow education secretary, made the comments in a debate with education spokesmen and women of the other parties on the BBC daily politics show.
It also features Nicky Morgan for the Conservatives, David Laws for the Lib Dems, James Humphreys for the Greens and Ukip’s Jonathon Arnott.
They were all asked if it was ok for an education secretary to send their child to private school and the answer was a unanimous yes.
